Mini Brief

I have been given a Brief to design the Logo and come up with a Name for a ...

Perfume Shop

What I need to do:
  • The 1st step I'll take is looking up Perfume Bottles and their Logos.
  • I will then go and photograph and collect business cards from perfume shops in Town.
  • Create a Name.
  • Design a Logo based on the name.

Finally have an idea for my final piece!

So I have finally come up with an idea for my final piece and here it goes :D

It's completely different to my dream catcher idea. I initially wanted to make a dream catcher and incorporated the painting theme by making a batik painting and sewing it in instead of the web. BUT... I was stuck on... what to paint!!

Sooo I did a little google search on 'Artwork based on Dreams' and came across a painting called ...
'Pieces of a Dream'
This made me think of puzzles!! How do puzzles link to dreams? Well for me personally, I can only remember parts of my dreams and they only make sense when I put those parts together... like a puzzle!
So the plan is to cut out small puzzle shapes from MDF and paint them in an abstract way with oils! I'M EXCITED... so off I go!

Dream Catchers

So as you know my theme is Dreams! The first idea I came up with for a final piece was to make a dream catcher. I've always loved dream catchers and it's a perfect excuse to find out a bit more about their history and of course make one from scratch.

So here goes...

I bought a wooden hoop and wrapped it with some purple silky ribbon.
First attempt finished. I added a yellow web with large gaps and so the web isn't very tight knit. I also added a few beads. I chose 2 bright and eccentric colours so it would link to how surreal dreams are.

My theme is... DREAMS

To get some ideas flowing we all created a circular mind map about dreams.

Screen Printing...

We are still exploring different paints and different ways to apply paints and so this is another new technique.
First Print

2nd Print.

3rd Print.

4th Print.

Photo Montage of First 4 Prints.

How I made these prints:
  • I used a screen print in an uncovnentional way.
  • I painted my owl, with a pallet knife straight onto a flat screen.
  • In the areas where I wanted no paint I applied Acrylic Medium.
I found this technique so much fun! You will never know what your prints will look like... and once you have done 3 or 4 prints the paint starts to mixed together and create amazing colours.
